Job Title: Head of Programme & Events
Working For: Counter Extremism Group
Location: office based
Salary: £35k. full-time
The Counter Extremism Group (CEG) is a London-based think tank created to meet the enduring challenge posed by extremist ideologies. Its staff has decades of experience in helping elected representatives, government officials, the media, and wider society better understand extremism – particularly Islamist extremism in the UK – and how to respond effectively. CEG’s work will involve identifying manifestations of extremism and subsequently producing non-partisan research, commentary, and policy advice.
CEG is looking to hire a Programme & Events Manager to organise, run, and ultimately expand its Young Leaders in National Security Fellowship. The Fellowship is a week-long course, which provides access to a leading range of experts and decision-makers who can provide an exhaustive and unparalleled insight into key issues facing the UK today. Speakers range from former leaders in the intelligence agencies, senior figures in counter-terrorism policing, government officials, special advisers and diplomats, to leading journalists in the field, best-selling authors, academics, former extremists, and those working to reform terrorist offenders in prison. Among other sessions, Fellows have attended seminars at No. 10 Downing Street, the US Embassy, the Home Office and Parliament.
This Fellowship aims to identify, nurture, and guide young people interested in counter-terrorism and counter-extremism issues and looking to pursue a career in these or closely related fields.
In addition to the week-long Fellowship programme, CEG maintains a strong alumni network. The Programme & Events Manager will be responsible for managing this network, keeping up to date with the progression of our alumni and scheduling various events throughout the year.
Separate to the Fellowship events, CEG also hosts a variety of events for stakeholders such as academics and HM Government throughout the year for the launch of our research publications. The Programme & Events Manager will be responsible for managing this process including sourcing venues, managing invites and on-the-day coordination of events.
The role would also involve the potential for presenting innovative ideas to the Senior Management Team about how to grow the cohort and expand CEG’s ability to identify young talent throughout the country and in a broad range of sectors.
Key responsibilities:
- Management of the Fellowship programme including, but not limited to:
- Oversight and coordination of the application process
- Booking and liaising with speakers
- Helping articulate programme goals and expectations while supporting individual fellowship needs
- Coordination of the week-long Fellowship programme, including pastoral duties
- Manage the programme’s budget, monitor expenditures, keep accurate financial records and ensure cost‑effectiveness in event, travel, and accommodation planning.
- Develop promotional materials and outreach strategies to recruit participants and raise public awareness of the Fellowship.
- Attend recruitment fairs or relevant conferences on behalf of CEG as necessary
- Planning of other events throughout the year including booking venues and liaising with speakers
- Expanding the Fellowship programme, which will include presenting innovative ideas to the Senior Management Team about how to grow the cohort and expand the organisation’s ability to identify young talent throughout the country and in a broad range of sectors. This could require ad-hoc travel around the country.
